Silicone elastomers are cross-linked gel polymers dispersed in a siloxane or hydrocarbon carrier. Since its first launch in the personal care industry, its excellent performance has had an important impact on color cosmetics, antiperspirants and skin care products. Typical applications include thickening, oil/sebum absorption, oil control, skin feel improvement and the production of water-in-oil emulsions.
They are usually made by reacting polyhydromethylsiloxane and a crosslinking agent (usually an ethyl-containing compound) in the presence of a silicone solvent and a platinum catalyst. The mixture is then obtained by a high shear process in a carrier solvent.Typical carrier solvents include dimethylsiloxane (fluid with a viscosity of 0.5-10 cSt), cyclopentasiloxane, isododecane, isohexadecane, and isononyl isononanoate.
Using polyhydrogen methyl siloxane, an elastomer with better organic compatibility can be obtained. Emulsified elastomer gels contain alkyl-functional (C12) siloxanes crosslinked with polyethers and swelled in various organic oils. These can be used to produce water-in-oil emulsions with a water content of more than 90% without emulsifiers, fast demulsification, and space stability.
Silicone resin
Silicone resin is a hydrogenated molecule composed of inorganic silica and organopolysiloxane, and has a three-dimensional network structure mainly composed of trifunctional or tetrafunctional units. Silicone resins are usually prepared by reacting chlorosilanes with chemicals such as alkyl or phenyl chloride in a fluidized bed reactor in the presence of a catalyst. The insoluble powder is called polymethylsilsesquioxane, which brings soft focus or wrinkle blurring effect, and acts as a skin feel modifier to produce a smooth, soft, non-sticky skin feel.
Soluble resins are called trimethylsiloxysilicate (MQ), polypropylsilsesquioxane, polyphenylsilsesquioxane, and alkyldimethylsilylpolypropylsilsesquioxane. They are commonly used as film formers to improve the spreading/migration and washing durability of cosmetics. MQ resins are usually too brittle to be used directly, and are usually combined with other resins or silicone fluids to obtain the best film-forming properties.
Siloxane copolyol
Silicone copolyol is a surface active ingredient, containing a water-insoluble siloxane skeleton and water-soluble polyether groups. The ratio of siloxane to polyether-the molecular weight and composition of the components-determines the solubility and specificity of the product. The polyether group can be on the end or side chain of the siloxane main chain. The siloxane copolyol is prepared by the hydrosilylation reaction of polyethylene glycol monoallyl ether and SiH fluid. It can be used as a dispersant, wetting agent, to reduce the viscosity of the formulation, to condition hair, and as an emulsifier for water-in-oil and oil-in-water emulsions.
Cosmetic elastomers refer to silicone elastomers, which are siloxane or modified siloxane polymers with a three-dimensional network structure, generally in powder state, gel state and emulsion state.
